In the context of rail fastening systems, a Floating Slab Mat refers to an elastic or resilient component placed between the rail and the sleeper (or baseplate) to provide cushioning, vibration damping, and noise reduction. It is called “floating” because it allows the rail to “float” slightly, absorbing dynamic forces and reducing the stress transmitted to the sleeper and the track foundation.
